Armadillo Removal in Central Florida

Nine-banded armadillos are an invasive species in Florida โ€” they pockmark lawns with cone-shaped holes every night, dig burrows under foundations, AC pads, and porches, and can carry leprosy. We use funnel-fence trapping (the only method that actually works) and FWC-compliant removal.

Why Repellents and Hardware-Store Traps Don't Catch Armadillos

Armadillos look slow and dumb but they’re surprisingly hard to trap. Almost everything sold for “armadillo control” is useless โ€” and the reasons matter for choosing the right solution:

  • They don’t take bait. Armadillos eat live grubs, worms, and insects they find by smell. They walk past peanut butter, fruit, and meat scraps without noticing.
  • They follow predictable travel paths. The only effective trapping uses funnel fencing โ€” wing fences that channel the armadillo into a live trap as it follows its nightly route. Trap-only without funneling rarely works.
  • Their burrows are a structural risk. A 7โ€“10 inch wide tunnel under your foundation, AC pad, or porch slab undermines the supporting soil. We’ve seen porches collapse and AC units tilt because of unaddressed burrows.

Florida regulations don’t allow relocation of this invasive species, so removal is humanely euthanized per FWC. We then exclude the burrows with hardware cloth, gravel, or concrete patch matched to the structure, and recommend lawn-care changes to reduce grub population so future armadillos move on.

Why Armadillos Are Hard to Trap

Armadillos don’t take bait. They dig for live insects. Successful trapping requires understanding travel paths and forcing them toward traps with funnel fencing. DIY methods rarely work.

Foundation & Structural Risk

An armadillo burrow under your foundation, AC pad, or porch slab undermines the supporting soil. Over time this causes settling cracks, AC unit tilt, and porch failures. We treat burrows near structures as urgent.

What Customers Say

Real reviews from Central Florida homeowners we’ve helped.

Heard scratching above our bedroom for two weeks. Two other companies wanted to spray pesticide and call it done. Central Florida Trapper actually went into the attic, found the roof rat entry, sealed it, and replaced the contaminated insulation.

A raccoon tore through our soffit and was raising kits. They located the babies, reunited them with mom outside, sealed everything, cleaned the attic. Done in three days. Insurance paid most because the paperwork was so thorough.

Same-day for a snake on our pool deck. Turned out to be a non-venomous black racer, but they explained the difference, removed it safely, and didn’t charge us a panic fee. Will absolutely call again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Armadillos rely on smell to find live grubs and worms โ€” they don’t avoid scent-based repellents. Most “armadillo repellents” sold online are useless. Funnel-fence trapping is the only reliable method.

Yes. Armadillos are documented carriers of Mycobacterium leprae. Florida has confirmed human leprosy cases linked to armadillo contact. Never handle one with bare hands.

Trap and remove existing armadillos, then reduce the grub and insect population that draws them (a lawn-care issue we recommend solutions for). Burrows under structures need exclusion.

No. Nine-banded armadillos are an invasive species. FWC requires humane handling but does not allow relocation. Captured animals are humanely euthanized per state regulations.
