Bat Removal & Exclusion in Central Florida

Bats are protected in Florida and exclusion is illegal during maternity season (April 16 โ€“ August 14). We are FWC-trained for legal bat exclusion: emergence counts, one-way exits, permanent sealing, and full guano cleanup with HEPA equipment for histoplasmosis safety.

Why Florida Bat Exclusion Is a Specialized Job

Bat removal is the most regulated wildlife service in Florida. Doing it wrong โ€” even with good intentions โ€” can result in dead pups in your attic, illegal exclusion fines, or serious health exposure. Here’s why most general handymen and pest companies refuse to touch it:

  • Maternity season prohibition. From April 16 through August 14, FWC prohibits exclusion entirely โ€” flightless pups would starve. Anyone offering “fast bat removal” in those months is either lying or breaking the law.
  • Histoplasmosis risk. Disturbing bat guano releases fungal spores that cause serious lung illness. DIY cleanup without HEPA filtration and full-face respirators is genuinely dangerous.
  • Re-infestation if not perfectly sealed. Bats can squeeze through gaps as small as 3/8″. A single missed crack means the colony returns within weeks.

We schedule outside maternity season, perform multi-night emergence counts to find every active entry, install one-way exits with no-return cones, then permanently seal with stainless mesh and polyurethane sealant. Guano cleanup uses HEPA-filtered vacuum and antimicrobial fogging.

Florida Bat Maternity Season

Under FWC rules, bat exclusion is prohibited from April 16 through August 14 while females are raising flightless pups. We schedule outside this window. Don’t trust a company that offers to “exclude bats now” during maternity season.

Our Bat Exclusion Process

  1. Emergence count. Identify entry points by watching at dusk.
  2. Seal secondary openings. Funnel to a single exit.
  3. One-way exits. Bats fly out, can’t return. 5โ€“7 days minimum.
  4. Final seal. Permanent metal mesh, polyurethane sealant.
  5. Guano cleanup. HEPA filtration, contaminated insulation replaced.

Health: Histoplasmosis & Rabies

Histoplasmosis grows in bat guano and disturbing it releases spores that cause serious lung illness. Never DIY guano cleanup. Rabies in bats is rare but possible โ€” never handle a bat with bare hands.

What Customers Say

Real reviews from Central Florida homeowners we’ve helped.

Heard scratching above our bedroom for two weeks. Two other companies wanted to spray pesticide and call it done. Central Florida Trapper actually went into the attic, found the roof rat entry, sealed it, and replaced the contaminated insulation.

A raccoon tore through our soffit and was raising kits. They located the babies, reunited them with mom outside, sealed everything, cleaned the attic. Done in three days. Insurance paid most because the paperwork was so thorough.

Same-day for a snake on our pool deck. Turned out to be a non-venomous black racer, but they explained the difference, removed it safely, and didn’t charge us a panic fee. Will absolutely call again.

Frequently Asked Questions

August 15 through April 15 only. From April 16 through August 14, FWC prohibits bat exclusion to protect flightless pups. Anyone offering “fast bat removal” during maternity season is breaking the law.

Yes. Histoplasmosis spores in dried guano cause serious lung infection when disturbed. Never DIY guano cleanup โ€” requires HEPA filtration, full-face respirators, and proper disposal.

One-way exits are left in place 5โ€“7 nights minimum to ensure the entire colony has exited. After confirmation we permanently seal. Total project including guano cleanup: 1โ€“2 weeks.

Not when done correctly. One-way devices let bats fly out but prevent return โ€” they relocate to natural roosts. We never seal during maternity season when pups would be trapped.
